Getting Ready for English (Book 1a)

This workbook is a pre-school activity/exercise book. The activities/exercises are designed to stimulate and develop the basic skills a child needs at the state of reading readiness.

Worked examples have been provided as guidance for the child. The page headings and instructions provided serve as guidance for teacher/parent/caregiver.

The activities in this book include:

• Recognition and prediction of continuing patterns and sequences
• Visual comprehension skills
• Developing vocabulary to describe shape patterns and sizes
• Visual discrimination of objects
• Hand-eye coordination in reading and writing
• Movement of hand – motor control, thus writing and colouring activities

By using this activity workbook, the children are encouraged to become active communicators by means of a wide range of stimulating activities designed to develop their thinking, reading, writing, listening and speaking skills in English.
