The Gonja language which is spoken by the Gonjas is quite distinct from all the languages in the Northern and Upper Regions. It is rather akin to some languages in the South, particularly, the Guang languages.
Gonja-speaking area covers more than one third of the Northern Region. It shares boundaries with the Brong-Ahafo and Volta Region in the South, and the Dagombas, the Mamprussis and the Walas in the North.
Gonja is a tonal language and changes in meaning are brought about by tonal differences. It is to be noted that most questions end on a falling tone.
All persons learning Gonja will find that the Gonjas have the tendency to elide vowels and slur consonants. Final vowels are always elided before other vowels, and often before words beginning with consonants.

This play is about the difficulties of two lovers eager to get married. Dadzi, the principal character, is a young man just back home from Britain with a university degree. He has a lucrative job and is well placed in society. He falls in love with Esinam, the well-bred daughter of a devout but stiff minister of religion. The preacher, at first, would have none of Dadzi’s advances to his daughter because he considered the suitor too unreligious. Later, however, he had cause to revise his opinion and later sanctioned the union.

Egya Tsinyinarannsɛ advised his two children, Onuaye and Fakyɛm to take to farming after completing their elementary education. The former obeyed their father’s advice but the latter refused to do farming and decided to go to Accra to look for a white-collar job.
Through hard work and dedication, Onuaye became a wealthy person and was able to rescue his brother, Fakyɛm from imminent imprisonment. Fakyɛm went back to the village and started farming, and, later, he Fakyɛm also became a wealthy person through farming.

Obeede (Akuapem Twi)
“Obeede” is an imaginary story based on the traditions, culture, customs, and the mode of the life of the Akan people.
The book reveals the thoughts, beliefs, and superstitions of the Akan people in connection with their gods and life in the unseen world of our past ancestors.
The “hero” (Kwabena Boakye) who was later known as “Obeede” represents the Akan “Ntorɔ” or “Bogya” a hunter, mysteriously fell into a deep coma and found himself in the unseen world. After many horrid experiences and adventures in that unseen world, he was later roused from his coma.
The story is written in a beautiful language with rare words used in catchy phrases and idiomatic expressions

Sɛ Ɛbɛwie is a tragi-comic novel which describes how a boy called Ntensere set off to trace his father called Bɛyɛɛdɛn. Bɛyɛɛdɛn had long traveled to an unknown destination in his youthful days. The journeys which Ntensere made to trace his father were full of adventures. At last he found him. They both took to farming. In the course of farming, they luckily dug out a big fortune. After this, they happily returned to their own Pɛwohoyɛsu. There, they did not only live a fulfilled life, but they also gave part of their wealth to help the underprivileged and also to develop their village. Consequently, their village became one of the well established towns in that area.
