Max Assimeng

Max Assimeng was educated at the Universities of Ghana and Oxford. With profound interest in demography and social psychology as an undergraduate, his interests shifted to sociological theories during graduate studies. He eventually specialized in the sociology of religion.

The author has, since 1968, taught largely at the University of Ghana, earning a full professorship in 1987. He has published widely on key sociological questions. His recent books include Saints and Social Structures (1986), Religion and Social Changes in West Africa (1989), and Foundation of African Social Thought (1997). He has also edited the Legon Observer (1969-71), Ghana Journal of Sociology (1970-75) and Ghana Social Science Journal (1971-98).

Professor Assimeng was elected to Fellowship of the Ghana Academy of Arts and Sciences in 1992. He later became the Honorary Secretary of the Academy.
