Efua Traoré is a Nigerian-German author who write books, short stories and songs in English and German. She grew up in a small town in Nigeria where she had a never boring and adventurous childhood. For as long as she can remember, her head was filled with little stories, but it was not until much later that she began to write them down.
Efua loves sharing the magical stories and adventures of her childhood with her daughters. When she could not find children’s books set in Nigeria or Africa that told similar adventure stories, she decided to write Children of the Quicksands for them. They loved it and so she sent it in for the Times / Chicken House competition in 2019. She won the prize!
She also won the Commonwealth Short Story Prize for Africa in 2018 for her short story ‘True Happiness’ and she is a literature grant holder of the Munich Literaturreferat.
Apart from Nigeria, Efua has also lived in France and now lives in Germany. If she had her way, she would travel much more and write every single day.
She lives in Munich with her husband and three daughters.
