Sharing Ideas on Adinkra Symbols

Daniel Appiah-Adjei was educated at Kumasi Anglican secondary school and University of Ghana, Legon where he obtained his Master of Fine Arts Degree (MFA) in Theatre Arts - Playwriting in (2000), and PhD in Theatre Criticism (2014). Playwright, actor, director and scholar,
Daniel Appiah-Adjei has handled many theatre groups including the Kyerematen Playhouse, the resident Theatre Company of the Centre for National culture, Kumasi where he was the Deputy Director. He is also the founder of Palace Players Theatre Company, a playhouse for children whose ages range from 8-16 years.
He also served as the Programmes Officer for the Cultural Initiatives Support Programme (CISP), a European Union (EU) Funded project for the cultural sector of Ghana for Three years.
He has many research works and plays to his credit. These include: Atobra, A Virgin Once again, The Fools' Paradise, Freedom In Chains, Death On Trial, The Tears of Lucifer, Aids is no respecter of Persons, The Slave-Ship, Instant Justice, Seek Ye (Children's Play), The Bleeding flower, A virgin for sale, False Vision, Funeral Ahead of Time, Mathew Chapter Four, The Royal Revenge, From Mother to Son, The Future President (The Girl in A ICT), The Promised Land, My son's Birth-Day Gift (Novel) etc. His major analytical works in Theatre, among others, include Macbeth Made Easy, Edufa Made Easy, The Marriage of Anansewa Made Easy, and Toward an Understanding of the "ISMS" in Theatre. He has also written extensively on Adinkra Symbols, cultural and other social issues in his column "Oral Village Ideas"

Dr. Daniel Appiah-Adjei sees the Authentic African theatre as Theatre of Symbols.

He is currently lecturing at the Department of Theatre Arts, University of Ghana, Legon.
