Joseph Atsu Ayee

Joseph Atsu Ayee is Professor at the Department of Political Science, University of Ghana. He obtained the PhD in Political Science and Public Policy from The Hebrew University of Jerusalem, Israel in June 1992. He graduated from the University of Ghana with BA (Hons) and MPA degrees in 1978 and 1982 respectively. He held the following academic and administrative positions: Rector, MountCrest University College (2013-2014); Deputy Vice Chancellor, University of KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa (2010-2012); Dean, Faculty of Social Studies, University of Ghana (2002-2009); and Head, Department of Political Science, University of Ghana (1995-2000); Emeka Anyaoku Visiting Professor of Commonwealth Studies, University of London (2013); Chair in Leadership Studies, UNESCO/United Nations University Leadership Academy (UNULA), University of Jordan (2001); and Visiting Commonwealth Research Fellow, Department of Politics, University of Glasgow, Scotland (1993-1994).

He has to his credit 210 publications in several areas of public policy and administration, politics, governance and leadership. Some of them have appeared in African Studies Review, African Affairs, Canadian Journal of African Studies, International Review of Administrative Sciences, International Journal of Public Administration, Public Administration and Development, Democratization, Electoral Studies, Regional and Federal Studies, Development Policy Review, Local Government Studies, Regional Development Dialogue, African Journal of Political Science, African Journal of Public Administration and Management, African Administrative Studies, African and Asian Studies, Africa Development, and South Africa Journal of International Affairs. He has consulted for several local and international organizations and served as external examiner and assessor for several universities. He is a Fellow of the Ghana Academy of Arts and Sciences and Ghana Institute of Management and a member of the Executive Committee of the Christian Council of Ghana. He was adjudged the Best Teacher in the Humanities, University of Ghana in 2006.
